Whitehorse, Yukon – The Yukon Hospital Foundation’s third annual Epicurious, Gourmet Food Festival on January 27 raised over $40,000 towards the purchase of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging – or MRI – machine for Whitehorse General Hospital.
“Due to the generous support of our community partners and all the participating chefs, volunteers and event attendees, we are one step closer to making the MRI a reality for our hospital and our community,” said Yukon Hospital Foundation President Scott Kent.
Epicurious featured 500 attendees, 20 local chefs, Yukon College and Skills Canada- Yukon culinary and restaurant service students and celebrity chef Lynn Crawford in a ‘celebration of food’ at the Yukon Convention Centre.
“As a small jurisdiction of only 34,000, the generosity demonstrated by our partners and event supporters to health care in the territory is a testament to the true meaning of community spirit,” continued Kent.
Since its establishment in 2005, the Yukon Hospital Foundation has purchased heart monitoring, operating room and digital imaging equipment for Whitehorse General Hospital and last year purchased a 128-slice CT scanner – one of only a handful in Canada.
The Foundation’s three-year MRI Campaign was launched last October. At the campaign’s conclusion, Whitehorse General Hospital will be the only facility north of 60 with an MRI.
