Yukon Hospital Foundation’s “Epicurious” Features Top Chef Canada Winner

Whitehorse, Yukon – The Yukon Hospital Foundation will present the fourth annual Epicurious, Gourmet Food Festival on April 19 to benefit its campaign to purchase a Magnetic Resonance Imaging – or MRI machine – for Whitehorse General Hospital.

Epicurious will feature local chefs, Yukon College culinary arts students and celebrity chefs Dale MacKay, Jimmy Stewart and Christian Pritchard in a celebration of food at the Yukon Convention Centre. Event attendees will savour culinary creations from participating chefs while cheering on Chef MacKay and Chef Stewart in our inaugural “Battle Yukon.”

“Chef MacKay won Top Chef Canada in 2011 and Chef Stewart can be seen on Food Network Canada competing in the current Top Chef season,” said Yukon Hospital Foundation President Krista Prochazka. “It will be exciting to see what they can create when all of their “secret ingredients” are local Yukon.”

A native of Saskatoon, Chef MacKay is currently Executive Chef/Proprietor of ensemble in Vancouver. Before becoming the inaugural winner of Top Chef Canada, MacKay was a protégé to world renowned Chef Gordon Ramsay and Executive Chef of Vancouver‟s Five Diamond, Four Star Lumière.

Born and raised in North Vancouver, Chef Stewart is the sous chef at the Bearfoot Bistro in Whistler. He has pushed his way into some of Vancouver‟s best restaurants including Lumière, spent a year in Gordon Ramsay‟s MAZE and the Ledbury in London, England and then a year in Toronto at Colborne Lane and Origin. He is currently competing in season two of Top Chef Canada.

Chef Pritchard can regularly be seen on the Food Network, Rogers TV, CHCH, CBC and City TV. He produces and emcees large cooking events in North America and around the world – including “Battle Yukon!” Passionate about food education, he teaches cooking classes, operates The Blue Mountain Culinary Cottage and is a Culinary Tourism host with Transat Holidays.

In addition to Epicurious, Chefs MacKay, Stewart and Pritchard will spend a day mentoring and working with Yukon College students and Chef Pritchard will give a public workshop on culinary tourism.

Epicurious is a tasting event where participating restaurants and companies offer a wide variety of appetizing bites and beverages to enjoy. Tastes include menu favourites, as well as dishes created just for this event. Tickets for Epicurious are $50.00 and available at the High Country Inn or by calling 393.8930. All proceeds benefit the MRI Campaign.
