Whitehorse, Yukon – The 2nd Annual Skookum Asphalt Charity Pro Am Golf Tournament held at Mountain View Golf Club over the weekend brought together 18 Canadian golf professionals and 144 local golfers in support of the Yukon Hospital Foundation’s ongoing MRI fundraising campaign.
The event raised $90,000 for the Yukon Hospital Foundation to purchase a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine for Whitehorse General Hospital.
“The weather was perfect, the course was great and the generosity demonstrated by event sponsors and participants exceeded our expectations and brings us significantly closer to our fundraising goal,” said Yukon Hospital Foundation President Scott Kent. “On behalf of the Yukon Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, my sincere appreciation goes out to Skookum Asphalt and all our sponsors for making this very special charity tournament possible.”
“Skookum Asphalt is proud to host this annual event and contribute to our hospital’s ability to provide Yukon residents with the very best health care possible right here at home,” said Skookum Asphalt Division Manager and Yukon Hospital Foundation Chair Darrell Stone.
Tournament champions are Mike Palamar, Mitch Malchow and Dan Hogberg of Whitehorse. Mike Haraguchi of the Capilano Golf and Country Club was the winning professional.
The Yukon Hospital Foundation raises funds to purchase state-of-the-art diagnostic medical equipment for Whitehorse General Hospital and is embarking on the second year of its three-year fundraising campaign to purchase an MRI for the hospital that will see wait times for Yukon residents requiring a non-critical MRI scan reduced from an average of six months to a matter of weeks.
