Sandra Schmirler Foundation donates over $50,000 for newborn care in Yukon

Whitehorse, May 25, 2017 – Yukon Hospital Foundation President was joined by members of Team Yukon and Nurses from Whitehorse General Hospital to announce a gift in the amount of $50,100 from the Sandra Schmirler Foundation.

These funds will be used to purchase six key pieces of equipment for the maternity/nursery at Whitehorse General Hospital. Including monitoring equipment, a broselow cart and a bili light system.
Approximately 400 births occur each year at Whitehorse General Hospital – with these new pieces of equipment we will be able to better monitor high-risk pregnancies and keep both baby and mom closer to home. In emergencies we are able to keep infants stable until they can be sent down to specialized care.

“The Sandra Schmirler Foundation has impacted the lives of so many Canadians, and the Yukon Hospital Foundation is so grateful to the Foundation for supporting the infants of the Yukon through this generous gift,” said Karen Forward, President of the Yukon Hospital Foundation.
