Northwestel commits $450,000 over 5 years towards Yukon hospital care

4/12/2017

Whitehorse, April 12, 2017 – Northwestel President and CEO Paul Flaherty was joined by Yukon Premier Sandy Silver and Minister of Health and Social Services Pauline Frost today as he announced a five-year $450,000 donation to the Yukon Hospital Foundation, in support of improving Northern healthcare.

Today’s major funding announcement, made at the Yukon General Hospital, marked the 15th anniversary of Northwestel’s partnership with the Yukon Hospital.  Northwestel has now surpassed more than $2 million in total committed contributions towards Yukon healthcare since the company’s major gifts began in 2003.

“Today Northwestel expands on our long-standing commitment to improving healthcare in the North,” said Flaherty.  “For the 300 plus Northwestel employees who live and work in the Yukon, this is an important contribution towards the communities we serve.  More than that, it is an investment in the place we call home.  We are so proud to be partnering once again with the Yukon Government and the Yukon Hospital Foundation as we work to ensure high-quality healthcare is available to Northern Canadians.

Over the next five years, Northwestel’s donation will help secure much needed equipment for Yukon Hospitals including a fluoroscopy machine to provide advanced X-ray care to more than 700 Yukoners annually, and support in-kind service to staff and patients.  Northwestel’s previous commitment of $450,000 helped the Foundation acquire Yukon’s Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine (MRI) and establish the Northwestel Medical Imaging Centre.

Flaherty also renewed the company’s commitment to the Northwestel Festival of Trees, the Yukon Hospital Foundation’s signature annual event that brings together Yukoners and the local business community in support of Yukon Hospitals.
