Charity Golf Tournament Raises $9,000 for Hospital’s Maternity Ward

Whitehorse, Yukon – The Bankers and Friends Charity Golf Tournament held on August 24th at Mountain View Golf Club raised more than $8,950 for the Yukon Hospital Foundation’s Little Treasures Fund to purchase a syringe pump for the Whitehorse General Hospital’s maternity nursery.

“We are so appreciative of generosity shown by our local banks and companies – and by the commitment of the event volunteers and participants“ said Yukon Hospital Foundation President Krista Prochazka. “It is a wonderful event that really helps address the critical equipment needs of our hospital.”

The Yukon Hospital Foundation’s Little Treasures Fund was specifically established to encourage donations to the maternity and paediatric wards at Whitehorse General Hospital. This year, event proceeds will purchase a syringe pump. Syringe pumps pump very small volumes of medication into sick babies and young children, they allow for very precise control and are especially suited for small volume infusions.

In addition to this fund, the Foundation is in the 2nd year of its three- year fundraising campaign to purchase a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine for Whitehorse General Hospital that will see wait times for Yukon residents requiring a non-critical MRI scan reduced from an average of six months to a matter of weeks.
