Welcome from the Chair

Yukon Hospital Foundation Chair

As a father, I am extremely proud of my role with the Yukon Hospital Foundation and its work in our incredible community over the past decade to support and enhance health care in the Yukon.

Since 2003, when a committed team of Yukon community and business leaders came together, ignited by a common vision, and the first Northwestel Festival of Trees was held, more than $3 million has been raised for our territory’s hospitals to help provide the very best health care possible for Yukoners – right here at home.

Together, we helped purchase state-of-the-art maternity, pediatric, operating room, heart monitoring and digital X-ray equipment, as well as a CT scanner and the North’s only MRI for Whitehorse General Hospital. We have also been able to support portable ultrasound machines for Watson Lake Community Hospital and the Dawson City Hospital and supported the First Nations Health Program.

Healthcare philanthropy, while certainly not a substitute for government funding, plays an increasingly important role in funding expensive medical equipment, facilities, programs and technologies at hospitals throughout the country. Like other hospital foundations, we are an independent charity, helping to bridge the gap between ‘medically necessary’ and ‘reasonable access,’ as defined by government, with the increasing expectations of health care services that Yukoners want.

We also help to attract and retain the very best health care professionals, by helping to give them the best tools, for the benefit of all Yukoners.

Thanks to the incredible commitment and generosity of Yukoners, our businesses community and all levels of government, the Foundation’s legacy is strong and we are very excited about the path ahead.

On behalf of my fellow board members, we are pleased to launch our latest campaign to work with you to raise funds for a fluoroscopy machine at Whitehorse General Hospital. With your support, we can reach this goal.

A fluoroscopy machine is a full-motion video X-ray. This non-invasive diagnostic tool is used to provide safe and quick diagnoses and is considered a key exam within a modern, state-of-the-art health care centre.

You make a significant difference in the health and well-being of thousands of Yukoners. Thank you for your continued support.
